I am just wondering how this voting system works and how useful it is?
What is inetresting is that people advertise for the tools through their facebook/twitter friends(without even introducing the tool or asking people to use the tool before voting). I personall received a message on Facebook, including around 300 friends, with the subject "vote for my project".
"The winner of the People’s Choice App Award will be the app that receives the most votes." My undestanding is that the winner are the group with the highest number of friends in facebook!!!!!

I second this message. The people's app award is a "popularity contest" of the number of friends/family the app's author could convince to vote in a month. How many of the voters have at least tried running one or more of the tools before voting (is there such an incentive for voters)?

This challenge has three prize categories: two are juried and one is determined by public voting. The goal of the public voting is for members of the public to vote on the app they think should win the competition. The other prize categories are voted on by an expert panel. All of the prizes taken together serve the purpose of providing expert opinion, public exposure, and public input for the challenge.
